Feet on the Ground forms the basis of our training. We
ensure that when you lead the horse and work around him/her, s/he has
perfect manners at all times. We teach him/her to be lead without
trying to bite or barge the handler. We make sure that the horse stops
and starts when the handler does. We teach your horse lateral work that
prepares him/her for ridden dressage. The in–hand
ground exercises are a prelude to, or can be simultaneous with, work in
the
round pen. At talkinghorse, we never lunge a horse. We long rein. Long reining teaches the horse to move forward quietly and always in balance. The horse works on a light contact and brings the hocks under naturally. When the horse carries himself in balance at all paces, he will be ready for his rider. Although we do not usually offer ridden schooling, we can do and will advise based on your personal needs. Our clients usually opt for lessons, on site, from our recommended and highly experienced dressage instructor. Starting horses begins with getting to know your young horse in the stable and teaching him/her to want to follow you outside. In the round pen, we use the horse's own language to get him/her to think that a saddle, bridle are something to enjoy. Your horse will never be punished for doing something wrong. If the horse doesn't understand what we want, we try to explain more clearly. When the horse does something we ask, he/she gets thanked straight away, every time. If learning is a pleasure for the horse, the horse soon learns to do what we want it to and wants to do it too. When the horse wants to do it every time we ask, our job is done. You can watch us work with your horse at any time. When your horse knows how, there's just one thing left: we will spend time to show you how you can ensure that your horse understands you too. |
